DEVOTIONAL – THE HIDE AND AND SEEK, FIND AND FUNNY TIMES OF AN ALL GROWNUP WOMAN – SEEK

This morning, I was listening to Awake My Soul by the group, Mumford and Sons.  I have to admit that I don’t fully understand what all the words mean but I was captivated by the chorus:

In these bodies we will live,
in these bodies we will die
Where you invest your love,
you invest your life

awake my soul…
awake my soul…
awake my soul…
For you were made to meet your Maker

I don’t know this group well but I’ve been listening to a few of their songs recently and I am uplifted by their music because I find it to be majestic, ebullient and affirming. Kevin Emmert wrote in Christianity Today – “Their lyrics—primarily written by frontman Marcus Mumford—are heart gripping, capturing experiences to which most listeners can relate—brokenness, regret, and longing for restoration. While some of the lyrics are raw and emotionally uncensored, they also provide glimpses of hope. Themes of love, grace, and forgiveness—and a dusting of other biblical references – show up regularly in their songs.”

I dont want to get caught up in a debate about whether this is a Christian group or not – for me, it doesn’t matter – but I do believe that these lyrics offer up a very powerful truth.  “Where you invest your love, you invest your life” and it challenged me today.

At the top of the page in my journal, I wrote, “Where do you invest your love, Diane? Someone once told me that all you have to do is look at how you spend your time and money  – that will tell you what and who you love. I’ve always remembered those wise words.

We all have 1440 minutes every day and it seems like the older I get, the faster these minutes fly by. I want to invest my life in what truly matters…and love matters.

MAKE A MOMENT TO MUSE

  1. Take a few minutes and listen to this song. What do you think about it?
  2. Where do you invest your love?
  3. Do you agree with the words, “Where you invest your love, you invest your life“?

speak truth: These things will last forever – faith, hope and love – and the greatest of these is love.   1 Corinthians 13.13. NLT
