Early Birthday Joy

What a wonderful early birthday present – my very own homemade blanket! I don’t know how many blankets I’ve crocheted in the past couple of years but I’ve given every one of them away. Yesterday, my special friend, Danielle surprised me with a BEAUTIFUL blanket that she’s been working on for months.

She reluctantly modeled it…I can get away with these demands when I’m the “birthday-girl-to-be”!

I remember when Danielle started crocheting this blanket. She just loved the watermelon colours and I know how much she was looking forward to enjoying this blanket herself.

Funny thing with these blankets…they take so much time and effort but as you crochet away, the Lord puts someone’s name on your heart and you begin to wrestle internally – you want to keep the blanket but you clearly know that it’s not meant for you.  You surrender… and then the anticipation begins. You can’t wait to bless someone with your labour of love.

I know the feeling EXACTLY.

Giving feels so good.

I saw Danielle’s joy as I “ooo-ed and ah-ed” at this gift.

She knows that I know that she knows how much I love doing the same thing for other people.  It’s a grammatically poor sentence but it’s a rich truth. THAT’S what makes it so special.

Homemade gifts speak volumes…and Danielle has loved me loudly.

As I write this blog on a cool and windy Wednesday morning, I’m wrapped in love.

(But I couldn’t resist this quote!)

    Feeling your joy Diane!

Happy Birthday Diane! Your snugly will give you much love in the years to come. Danielle will always be in your mind and heart as long as you enjoy her incredible gift. Be blessed!
I have crochet a little, but never a big job like that. Maybe sometime you could show me the pattern and renew my interest. I’d love to have a new hobby I could take with me anywhere.
    Enjoy,
    Love Barb

    • Hey Barb,

I haven’t followed a pattern since the first blanket I made! It’s kinda’ like when you ask people for the details of a delicious recipe and they respond with, ” oh, you put a pinch of this and a big handful of that..” 🙂 The whole point of my “back and forth” crocheting is that I don’t have to count!! But I can certainly show you my “free spirited” crochet ways some time. I love being able to crochet anytime, anywhere. Love Diane

I also know your joy Diane. I have made many large afghans and perhaps a hundred baby afghans and have given them all away for birthday, wedding. baby showers……. and just because gifts. It certainly is ‘more blessed to give than receive’….a true labour of love and I have been the recipient of one of your gifts. I will always think of you when I use this blanket and remember your ‘labour of love.’

    • Thanks, Mrs. B….I’ve seen some of your homemade creations and they are truly labours of love.

It makes me smile thinking of you, thinking of me when you’re keeping warm with my blanket!
      Love Diane
