Chris and I went on an early bike ride this morning — great way to start the week. When we got home, I rolled up my sleeves in the kitchen and made a new mac and cheese dish (with quinoa macaroni, so we’ll see what Chris thinks about it! ) and my “becoming famous” banana cake. As I was cleaning up, I overheard my husband in the back room talking online with the group of co-workers. What I heard was something like, “Oh, and I just want to say kudos to our migration architect – your first go-live was really complex but it went smoothly.” I have no idea what a migration architect is or a go-live, but I know encouragement when I hear it. I couldn’t help but smile when I heard Chris praising someone for a job well done.
I don’t care who or how old you are – everybody appreciates encouragement.
When I told Chris I had overheard his conversation, he told me, “Ours can be a really thankless business.” All the more reason to stand out among his peers as one who takes the time and makes the effort to lift others up, right?
Strong people don’t put others down – they lift them up. Michael P. Watson
