Tonight is a very special night of celebration.
We’re going to spend the evening with a couple who are dear to our hearts. A year ago, John and Sue (not their real names) experienced a crisis in their marriage when one of them had an affair. In an unusual way that God alone could orchestrate, Chris and I were involved in the healing process for these two people.
In the midst of emailing back and forth this past week, Sue sent me this picture of what is now written on the wall in their bedroom…and I’ve been smiling ever since.
What touches my heart is that these two precious people have allowed God to restore them from the inside out.
It hasn’t been about merely “moving furniture around”, in order to create the illusion of change – it’s been a total renovation in both their lives.
Now, if you’ve ever lived through a house renovation, you’ll know how difficult this experience can be. Stripping down to the basics, throwing out, cleaning up, rewiring, re-plumbing, rebuilding and rebuilding – it takes a lot of time, a lot of planning and an enormous amount of work. Of course, no renovation ever runs smoothly. There are moments of great frustration, the work always becomes so much more costly than you originally thought and you wonder if you are ever going to see the end…
…or should I say the beginning?
Taking a broken relationship and allowing God to strip it down and rebuild takes courage and commitment. John and Sue will never be the same.
So, tonight, the four of us are going to celebrate new beginnings.
