Let’s Celebrate!

It was August 18th, 2011 and our neighbours’ barn burned to the ground. It was a horrendous sight. I have very stark memories of everyone in the neighbourhood quietly standing by the fence, watching this historic barn disappear from the landscape.

Today was the neighbourhood roast beef BBQ  – a time to celebrate the completion of the replacement barn.  There were about 159 people milling about,“oohing and aahing” at the spacious and well designed replacement barn.

Big enough to hold a nice sized reception when your three daughters get married.”

No…I don’t think so. I’m just giving them a ladder.” Lots of jokes. Lots of laughter.

The atmosphere was light, the air was nippy as the sun went down and this special farm family was smiling again.

New Barn

Children of all ages were grabbing chocolate kisses from the dish in the dessert corner. Friends and family were loading up on the roast beef, devilled eggs and the myriad of homemade salads.

Dinner

There were no official moments. No dedications…but everyone felt sincerely thanked for their love and support during those very painful days late last summer.

I think this is about as close to a good ol’ barn raising party as I’ll ever get…and I enjoyed every minute of it.

This reminded me of a video I saw a while ago…

Many hands make light work. The same usually goes for a traditional barn-raising.
