Oneness

I woke up to disappointing email news – not my first rejection email but it still hurts –  but I didn’t take much time to feel sad because my husband walked into the room with a big smile on his face and announced that he woke up to a very exciting phone call from work.

What a marvellous challenge to “rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn.” (Romans 12.15)  I pulled out of what could have become a downward spiral and chose to celebrate with Chris. It was so good to watch my husband feel so good about his work recognition. There are some classic moments to celebrate when it comes to accomplishment – this was definitely one of them.  After I listened to Chris’ story, I started to tear up and said to him, “Well, I’m certainly thankful that we’re not depending on my writing income to keep us afloat!” and told him about my rejection email.  Chris put his arms around me and whispered, “I love you.”

Oneness in marriage is a mystery  – it’s so difficult to explain but so glorious to experience.  This was a memorable moment of “oneness”  –  total sharing of the total person. Vulnerability. Closeness. Strength in togetherness.

Husbands and wives, recognize that in marriage you have become one flesh. If you live for your private pleasure at the expense of your spouse, you are living against yourself and destroying your joy. But if you devote yourself with all your heart to the holy joy of your spouse, you will also be living for our joy and making a marriage after the image of Christ and His church.  John Piper

  1. Oh Diane. I am so sorry for you. Rejection, no matter the source, is painful and causes a measure of grief. Thanks for sharing your story, which includes Chris. Thank God for Chris’ understanding and compassion. Piper is right on!

    Love, Barb

As I told you before Diane, many of the famous and well known authors have received rejections….but they went on writing and eventually their work was recognized and published. I am sure that God will enable you to overcome this news and forge ahead with your gift of writing. xoxoxo ‘Mrs. B.’

    • Thanks so much, Mrs. B. You’re always an encouragement! Diane
