Slow Fade

I was driving home this afternoon and heard this  powerful song on the radio.  It pierced my heart with such sadness.  It depicts a tragedy that happens all around us.  Men and women break their wedding vows and decide that they deserve more.

“Thoughts invade.  Choices are made.  A price will be paid.”  When families are torn apart because of sexual sin, there is indeed a very high price to pay.  Life is never the same.  There’s a new kind of normal.  It’s not the way it was meant to be. The seared conscience finally becomes silent when the same sin is committed repeatedly.  “People never crumble in a day.”

Years ago,  Steve Green came out with a similar themed song, “Guard Your Heart”.  This song also moved me to tears.

What appears to be a harmless glance
Can turn to romance
And homes are divided
Feelings that should never have been
Awaken within
Tearing the heart in two
Listen, I beg of you!

Guard your heart, Guard your heart
Don’t trade it for treasure
Don’t give it away
Guard your heart, Guard your heart
As a payment for pleasure
It’s a high price to pay
For a soul that remains sincere
With a conscience clear
Guard your heart.

I know what it feels like to pick up the mess after a husband walks away to another woman.  There are no words to describe the deep loss of so many things…a husband, a healthy family, self esteem, purpose…it took a long time to heal and a deep rooted belief that God Himself could rebuild me…and He did.

I recently came across an outstanding quote  about sexual sin.  It says it all.

Sexual sin is the canary in the coal mine, the first sign that something has gone haywire in our walk with Christ. Don’t laugh at lust.
