Thanksgiving 2016

This is my favourite time of the year.

School year starting up.

Autumn.

Birthday.

Thanksgiving.

One beautiful experience after another.

I still love looking at all the new school supplies on the store shelves. When the cool weather begins to turn the colours of leaves and I reach for my sweaters, I can’t help but smile. I turned the big 6-0 this year and I’ve had so much fun extending my birth-day to a birth-month!  And here we are celebrating Thanksgiving – a time to focus on glorious, God-given life.

Chris and I were in the car this afternoon and I was quieting thinking about how I could express my gratitude for all that God has given me.

On the radio came “Good, Good Father” by Chris Tomlin. I closed my eyes, listened to the words and wept.

That’s it. That’s exactly how I feel.

Oh, I’ve heard a thousand stories
Of what they think You’re like
But I’ve heard the tender whisper
Of love in the dead of night
And You tell me that You’re pleased
And that I’m never alone
You’re a good good Father
It’s who You are, it’s who You are, it’s who You are
And I’m loved by you
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am
Oh, and I’ve seen many searching
For answers far and wide
But I know we’re all searching
For answers only you provide
‘Cause You know just what we need
Before we say a word
You’re a good good Father
It’s who You are, it’s who you are, it’s who you are
And I’m loved by you
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am
Cause You are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways
You are perfect in all of your ways to us
You

He is a good, good Father. That’s who He is. I have so deeply felt his Father love towards me.

I am loved by God. That’s who I am. I belong to Him. I am redeemed, treasured and held by Him.

Turning sixty years old continues to cause me to reflect on my life. This Thanksgiving, I know that God knows exactly what I need and I know that He is perfect in all of His ways to me.  I savour each day that He blesses me with life – no longer is my breath taken for granted.

Where would I be without Jesus? Broken. Anxious. Confused. Fearful. Sad. Overwhelmed. Directionless.  Unsettled.

Hopeless.

But I have tasted . . . feasted on . . .  the goodness of God. I am settled. Joyful. Peaceful. Been healed, being healed and will continue to be healed. Living bravely. Confident. Whole.

Bursting with hope.

So I give thanks and once again, I weep tears of insuppressible joy.

He is a good, good Father. That’s who He is.

I am loved. That’s who I am.
