The Thanksgiving Chair

I call them hindsight hallelujahs.

Looking back on our lives with the advantage of time and perspective often reveals a thankful spirit . . .

. . .  but what about this present moment?

Close your laptop. Turn off your phone and the TV (I know the Jays are playing but..) and the news and the music.

Close your eyes.

Sit in the thanksgiving chair. Get comfortable and be still.

Think about what you possess rather than what you lack.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Be thankful for every circumstance, whether you prosper or suffer.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Spend time reflecting on the little things and the big things.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Be thankful for that which you do not understand.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Speak biblical truth to yourself – of never-ending, life-giving hope.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

GRATITUDE IS AN EXTRAVAGENT OUTPOURING OF AN APPRECIATIVE SOUL.

Prayer is “a cry of grateful love” (Therese of Lisieux) and gratitude is a discipline so take the time and make the effort to sit in the Thanksgiving chair and —

give thanks
